Oceancare Ltd participated in a drill in conjuction with IFS Ltd at Bighi Bay.

During this drill, Oceancare Ltd responded to a call by IFP reporting an on-board incident on the vessel MT Mumtaz, currently anchored at Bighi Bay in Malta’s Grand Harbour. The scenario involved an internal cargo transfer that has gone wrong which resulted in approximately 50 cubic meters of Heave Fuel Oil (HFO) being spilled overboard.

Oceancare deployed the oil response team, MV Moor and 250 metres of Vikoma 1000 hisprint inflatable offshore boom which was necessary in view of the simulation of a NE swell of about 1.5 metres.

Once deployed, Oceancare crafts did a U configuration with the help of a Zodiac Rib, contained the spill and eventually recovered the oil using Aquagard and Vikoma Star Skimmers.

Transport Malta officials monitored this exercise.
