Pollution Preventive Services

Under current local regulations, marine terminals and bunker operators are required to deploy oil booms – specialised equipment to contain the spilled oil – prior to the commencement of any ship-to-shore or ship-to-ship transfer operation. In the eventuality of a spill, the substance will remain contained and not contaminate other areas.

Apart from causing great harm to the environment, the clean-up operation of an oil spill can be a very costly exercise.

Oceancare Ltd offers this service 24/7 in both Valletta and Marsaxlokk port. Vessels are boomed with a 1.2 metre high fence boom.

Although all the industry players do their utmost to prevent incidents, it has to be acknowledged that incidents occur. These can be the result of mechanical failure or human error.

In view of this, Oceancare is equipped with state-of-the-art oil spill recovery equipment which is available in strategic points around Malta’s coast. We provide pollution response and clean-up services on a 24/7 basis.

Malta Freeport Terminals Ltd has engaged Ocean Care Services as an oil spill response service provider for “on-call” response services in the past. The Terminal is very satisfied with the level and quality of response and services that they have always provided.
